Sepp Blatter Re-elected as FIFA president

Sepp Blatter was re-elected as FIFA president for a fifth term at the 65th Annual Congress of FIFA held at Zurich on 29 May. This election for the post of FIFA President was held amidst the worst scandal in the organization’s 111-year history.


Pradeep Kumar Sinha Appointed as New Cabinet Secretary

Pradeep Kumar Sinha, a 1977 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre has been appointed as  next Cabinet Secretary.Sinha, has been serving as Power Secretary since July 2013 he will succeed Ajit Seth whose term ends on 13 June 2015. He had earlier worked as Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping, and has held several other important positions in the Union Government and the State of Uttar Pradesh.


Veena Jain Appointed as DD News DG

Veena Jain, a 1984 Indian Information Service officer, will be taking over as director general (DG) of News in Doordarshan.  She will also hold charge as officer on special duty in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for new and social media. Akshya Kumar Rout is currently DG (News) of Doordarshan.


SBI launches Online Application To Apply For Loans

Government-owned lender State Bank of India has launched Online Customer Acquisition Solution (OCAS),through which customers can apply online for home loans, car loans, education loans and personal loans. SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya launched the online application,this online application will help customers gauge their eligibility and get a quote personalised to their requirement. Customers can even upload all necessary documents online, reducing the processing time of their loan get an e-approval on filling the online form. Thereafter, the bank officials will contact customers and complete all the loan formalities.


Oxford University To Appoint First Female Vice-Chancellor

The University of Oxford is to appoint its first female vice-chancellor since its records began nearly 800 years ago, after Prof Louise Richardson was nominated for the university’s most senior office. Richardson, currently the principal and vice-chancellor of St Andrews University, is an expert on the growth of terrorist movements.
