India, Papua New Guinea Signed Four Agreements
India and Papua New Guinea on 29 April signed four MoUs in myriad sectors at capital Port Moresby. The MoUs were signed in the presence of the visiting President Pranab Mukherjee and the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’ Neil. The MoUs relate to Agriculture, Health, Information Technology and Infrastructure.Papua New Guinea is the largest of all the Pacific island-nations.
Nabard Partners Germany For Food Security Initiative
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has entered into collaboration with German Government for a special programme on ‘Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security‘.The programme is part of the German government’s recently introduced special initiative ‘One World, No Hunger’ initiative. India is the only country in Asia chosen for this initiative. As part of the collaboration, NABARD is anchoring two major programmes — soil conservation and rehabilitation of degraded land programme in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. It is also conducting innovation of watershed development and climate change adaptation programmes in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Gujarat Govt Announced 10 percent Reservation For EBCs
Gujarat government on 29 April announced 10 percent reservation for economically backward classes (EBCs) in general category.This 10 percent reservation for EBCs in general category will be available to all non-reserved class, whose total family income is less than 6 lakh annually. The new reservation will not affect the present reservation available to Scheduled Castes (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). This decision will breaches Supreme Court’s reservation limit of 50 percent as the State Government is already providing 50 percent reservation to SC, ST and OBC.
NK Singh Selected For Japan’s Highest Civilian Award
Former bureaucrat and parliamentarian Nand Kishore Singh has been selected for prestigious ‘Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver’, Japan’s highest civilian award. He was chosen for this prestigious award for promoting economic, educational and cultural ties between India and Japan. He is among 91 foreign recipients to be honoured during the 2016 Spring Imperial Decoration of Japan by Emperor Akihito during the investiture ceremony in May 2016.
