China Launches State-Owned Aircraft Engine Maker

China has set up a state-owned aircraft engine maker with registered capital of 50 billion yuan ($7.5 billion), in the latest effort to develop home-grown, high-tech businesses to compete in international markets. The state-owned Aero-Engine Group of China was created by combining a group of existing aircraft-engine companies. It will develop both military and commercial engines. China currently buys its commercial aircraft engines from General Electric and United Technologies’ Pratt & Whitney. China’s military jets uses Russian-made engines.


Amazon launches dedicated online Telugu book store

Online marketplace Amazon India has launched India’s first dedicate online Telugu book store with a wide selection of over 10,000 Telugu titles. Readers can get Telugu translations of English bestsellers in the store. Currently, Amazon caters to Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati and Bengali languages.


Wipro’s chief learning officer Abhijit Bhaduri quits

Abhijit Bhaduri, chief learning officer of Wipro has resigned. Bhaduri will start his own executive coaching company. Bhaduri is the man behind many of Wipro’s initiatives like global 100 program. He has been with Wipro for 7 years.


Four athletes get Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award

Four athletes, including Olympic silver medallist P.V. Sindhu, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, shooter Jitu Rai and Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award from President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi. Fifteen sportspersons were honoured with the Arjuna Award and three with the Dhyan Chand Award. Besides, the Punjabi University of Patiala was awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2015-16.


Aug 29 is Sports Day to mark Dhyan Chand’s b’day

National Sports Day in India is celebrated on August 29 to mark hockey legend Dhyan Chand’s birthday. Dhyan Chand, considered as the greatest player in hockey, played a key role in India’s three consecutive Olympic triumphs in 1928, 1932 and 1936. Notably, the government gives away awards such as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dronacharya Awards on this day.
