India To Host ICC Twenty20 World Cup In 2016

India has been confirmed as host for the 2016 Twenty20 World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup 2016 will be held in India from 11 March to 3 April 2016. It will be the 6th edition of T20 World Cup, the prior World Cup’s being held in 2007 (South Africa), 2009 (England), 2010 (West Indies), 2012 (Sri Lanka) and 2014 (Bangladesh). This was announced by ICC Board’s first meeting of 2015 held on 29 January at ICC headquarters in Dubai.


Shekhar Sen Appointed As Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi

Eminent singer, composer, lyricist and actor Shekhar Sen has been appointed as the chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) on 29 January. He was appointed for 5 years. Shekhar Sen will succeed Leela Samson who resigned from the position on 5 September 2014. The post was lying vacant since October 2014. Sangeet Natak Akademi is a national level academy of performing arts that was established by the Indian Government on 31 May 1952. It has its headquarters at New Delhi.


Sri Lanka Reinstates Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake

Shirani Bandaranayake, the former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, was reinstated by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on a special cabinet approval. With the reinstatement of Bandaranayake, the appointment of Mohan Peiris as Chief Justice of Sri Lanka by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was cancelled and termed as illegal appointment.


Sean Abbott Won Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year Award

Fast bowler Sean Abbott of Australia was named as the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year 2015 at the Allan Border Medal ceremony held in Sydney. Steve Smith became third player to win all the three awards namely Allan Border Medal, Test and ODI player of the year award after Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson. The Allan Border Medal is considered as the most prestigious individual prize in Australian cricket. The medal is named after former Australian captain Allan Border and recognises the most outstanding Australian cricketer of the past season.The first award was given in 2000 and the first recipient was Glenn McGrath.
