Sunrisers Hyderabad Won 2016 IPL Title

“Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 29 May won the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is their maiden IPL title. In the final clash played at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight runs. Player of the match – Ben Cutting (Sunrisers Hyderabad) Player of the series – Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore)”.


Real Madrid Won 2016 European Champions League

Real Madrid FC on 29 May won the 2016 European champions title. In the titled clash, Real Madrid defeated their city rivals Atletico Madrid via a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw. This was Madrid’s 11th European Champion title. Earlier Real Madrid FC had won UEFA Champions League in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2014.


Discus Thrower Seema Punia Qualifies For Rio 2016 Olympics

Discus thrower Seema Punia on 29 May qualified for the Rio Olympics with a 62.62m effort at the Pat Young’s Throwers Classic 2016 at Salinas in the United States. Punia crossed the Rio Games qualification standard of 61.00m at the Hartnell College Throwers Complex. She is the 19th Indian track and field athlete to qualify for Rio Olympics. This will be Seema’s third Olympic Games appearance having taken part in 2004 and 2012 where she failed to get past the qualification round on both the occasions.


International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers Observed Across The World

“The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed on 29 May 2016 to honour the work of UN peacekeepers. The theme of year 2016: Honouring Our Heroes. The day offers a chance to pay tribute to the Blue Helmets’ invaluable contribution to the work of the Organization and to honour more than 3400 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the UN flag since 1948, including 128 in 2015. On the other hand, the UN Postal Administration (UNPA) also issued a set of six new stamps for the occasion. The day was established to — Honour the memory of the UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. Pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage. United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had designated May 29 as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers by passing Resolution 57/129 in December 2002. The May 29 marks the anniversary of creation of United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in 1948. It was established to monitor the ceasefire after the Arab-Israeli War 1948, which was the first ever peacekeeping mission under the UN flag. The day was designated on official request of the Ukrainian Peacekeepers Association and Government of Ukraine to the UNGA. It was first celebrated in 2003.”
