India Finish Fifth AT 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games
India finished fifth in the 2014 Commonwealth Games with 64 medals (15 gold, 30 silver, 19 bronze). England took the top spot with 174 medals of which 58 were gold. 4929 athletes from 71 countries and territories of the erstwhile British Empire participated in the 11-day competition. The 2014 Commonwealth Games (officially the XX Commonwealth Games) were held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. The 21st Commonwealth Games will be held in Gold Coast in Australia.
6.1 Earthquake Strikes China’s Yunnan Province
Earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on Richter scale stuck southwest Yunnan province of China on 3 August. The quake left behind a trail of destruction and devastation in the province and killed about 380 people and injured about 1800 others. This was the strongest earthquake to hit the province in 14years.
