PM Modi inaugurates International Basava Convention
Prime Minister Modi has unveiled translated volumes of Vachana in 23 Indian languages on the occasion of Basava Jayanti. This is first ever celebration of Basava Jayanti at the National level in New Delhi. The translated volumes of Vachana was commissioned by the Basava Samithi at a cost of 2.5 crore rupees of which the Karnataka Government has contributed 1 crore rupees.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited India
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in India on 30th April, 2017 evening. He was received at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee. Following this Erdogan met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. He will depart from India shortly before midnight on 1 May, 2017.
Joshna Chinappa wins historic Asian Squash Singles Title
Joshna Chinappa on 30 April, 2017 scirpted history by becoming the first Indian to clinch the Asian Squash title with a thrilling win over compatriot Dipika Pallikal Karthik in women’s singles final in Chennai. It is the biggest achievement of her long singles career. Joshana, who had won the historic Commonwealth Games doubles gold with Dipika Pallikal in glasgow three years ago.
Paes- Lipsky won Tally Challenger Doubles Title
The top seeded Indo American pair paes and Scott Lipsky came from behind to pipe Argentine third seeded Leonardo Mayer and Maximo Gonzalez 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 in the summit clash. This is paes’s 2nd Challenger title of the season. In the singles event Ramkumar, playing the first challenger level final of his career, lost the title match 2-6, 7-6, 5-6 to slovenian qualifier Blaz Rola. He won the silver medal in the tournament.
World Immunization Week 2017 Observed on April 24 to 30
World Immunization Week 2017 is being observed across the globe between 24 April to 30 April 2017. The theme for the World Immunization Week is ‘Vaccines Work’. The theme aims at raise awareness about the critical importance of full immunization throughout life, and its role in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Highlight the importance of immunization as a top global health investment priority.
