Former Supreme Court Judge VR Krishna Iyer Died
Former Supreme Court Judge and minister of Kerala’s first Communist Government, Justice Vaidyanathapura Rama Krishna Iyer, popularly known as Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer was died on 4 December 2014 in Kochi. His 100th birthday was celebrated in Kochi on 15 November 2014. Justice Iyer was sworn in as the judge of the Supreme Court on July 17, 1973 and retired at the age of 65 on November 14, 1980. He became a member of the Madras Legislative Assembly in 1952. He held portfolios such as law, justice, home, irrigation, power, prisons, social welfare and inland navigation in the first Communist government in Kerala headed by E.M.S. Namboodiripad that came to power in 1957. He was conferred with Padma Vibhushan in the 1999. He has to his credit around 70 books, mostly on law, and four travelogues. Wandering in Many Worlds is his autobiography. He has also authored a book in Tamil, Neethimandramum Samanvya Manithanum.
India Celebrates 43rd Navy Day
India was celebrated the 43rd Anniversary of the navy on 4 December 2014. Navy day in India was observed on 4th of December every year to celebrate the magnificence, achievements and role of the naval force to the country. Indian navy is the marine branch (means naval branch) of the India’s armed forces which led by the President of India as a Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy. The Maratha emperor, Chhatarpati Shivaji Bhosle of the 17th century is considered as “Father of the Indian Navy”.
India’s Ranked 85th In Global Corruption Index – 2014
India ranked 85th out of 175 countries in Transparency International India (TII)’ s Corruption Perceptions Index -2014. Denmark retained its position as the least corrupt country in 2014 with a score of 92 while North Korea and Somalia shared the last place, scoring just 8. According to the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) report by TII, the CPI score for the country increased by 2 points in 2014 from its 2013 score, helping its rank move up to 85 in 2014 from 94 in 2013.
