Kumar Sangakkara Joins Elite 12,000-Runs Scorer Club In Test Cricket

Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara has joined an elite group of cricketers to make 12,000 runs in Test Cricket. He reached this milestone in Sri Lanka’s second Test match against New Zealand held in Wellington, New Zealand. He has become the fifth cricketer to make 12,000 runs. Sangakkara started the two-Test New Zealand series on 11,988 runs and after scoring six and one in the first Test in Christchurch, he was determined to get the final five in Wellington. Since launching his Test career in 2000, Sangakkara has made an impressive average of over 58.00, including 37 centuries in 130 Tests. His highest score was 319 against Bangladesh. He is now number four on the all-time scoring list, although his average is higher even than Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the ranking with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests at 53.78.  Australian Ricky Ponting (13,378 at 51.85), Jacques Kallis from South Africa (13,289 at 55.37) and India’s Rahul Dravid (13,288 at 52.31) round out the top five.


Kiran Bhai Vadodaria Elected As INS president

Kiran Bhai Vadodaria was elected as President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2014-15. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Gujarati newspaper Sambhaav Metro.


Veteran Chinese Sports Administrator He Zhenliang Died

The former International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and Vice President He Zhenliang was died on 4 January. He was 85.He Zhenliang began his career in 1955 as an international communication official in National Sports Commission of China. In 1964, he became the Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Gymnastics Association and later served as the Secretary General of the Chinese Table Tennis Association. In 1979, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the all-China Sports Federation and the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC). Zhenliang was elected as a member of the IOC from the People’s Republic of China in 1981 and was elected as IOC Vice President in 1989.He became IOC Honorary Member in 2010 and served on the IOC Executive Board three times in 1985, 1994 and 1999. He was the Honorary Member of the Commission for Culture and Olympic Education from 2009 to 2015.
