Former Chief Justice YK Sabharwal Died

Former Chief Justice of India YK Sabharwal died in New Delhi. He was 73. Justice Sabharwal was Chief Justice from November 1, 2005 to January 13, 2007. As a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Sabharwal delivered several important judgments dealing with constitutional matters, including the verdict in January 2006, that held the dissolution of Bihar Assembly as illegal and unconstitutional. He also headed a bench monitoring river inter-linking projects in the country. He was also part of the bench that had cancelled petrol pump licences granted under the discretionary quota of ministers. He dealt with many bribery cases and cases concerning unauthorised construction in Delhi.


Four Indian-Americans Honoured with Great Immigrants Award 2015 In US

Four Indian Americans were on 4 July honoured with the 2015 Great Immigrants : The Pride of America award by Carnegie Corporation of New York. They are among 38 distinguished personalities from more than 30 countries around the world who have been honoured with this year’s award.

Four Indian-Americans are :-

* Preet Bharara – US Attorney, Southern District of New York.

* Rakesh Khurana – Dean of Harvard College and Marvin Bower Professor of Leadership and Development.

* Madhulika Sikka – Vice President and Executive Editor of .Mic.

* Abraham Verghese – Physician, Professor and Author.


C D Balaji is new ADA Chief

C D BalajiCommodore C D Balaji (Retd) took charge as the Director of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Programme Director of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). He succeeded P S Subramanyam, Distinguished Scientist, who superannuated on 30 June 2015.


Microsoft Agreed To Set Up Digital Village In Maharashtra

Software major Microsoft has agreed to support ‘digital villages’ in Maharashtra and develop a ‘smart MIDC’ (industrial colony) apart from setting up a cyber-security centre in Pune.
