Hashim Amla Named South Africa’s Test Cricket Captain

Hashim Amla has been appointed captain of South Africa’s test cricket team, becoming the first black cricketer to hold the post permanently. He takes over from Graeme Smith, who retired earlier this year after a world record 109 matches in charge. He is also the fifth permanent Test captain of Proteas (nickname of South African cricket team), since they were readmitted to international cricket in 1992 after Kepler Wessels, Hansie Cronje, Shaun Pollock and Smith – who announced his international retirement in March. Earlier during the apartheid era, the South-African cricket team included only white people.

National Dairy Research Institute Clones Female Buffalo Calf

Researchers of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) cloned female buffalo calf, Lalima. Lalima was produced through indigenously developed Hand-guided Cloning Technique. Lalima weighs 42-kg and is a female calf.  It is the seventh buffalo clone produced by NDRI.  Scientists used the institute’s indigenously developed hand-guided cloning technique where somatic cells from an ear of a Murrah buffalo were taken to produce a clone. Murrah is high milk yielding mature buffalo.
