President Pranab Mukherjee Signed Ordinance On Food Security Bill

On 5 July Pranab Mukherjee signed the ordinance on Food Security to give nation’s two-third population the right to get 5 kgs of foodgrains every month at highly subsidised rates of Rs 1-3 per kg. The Food Security programme will be the biggest in the world with the government spending estimated at Rs 125,000 crore annually on supply of about 62 million tonnes of rice, wheat and coarse cereals to 67 per cent of the population.


US Missile Defense Test Fails Over Pacific

On 5 July 2013,a missile test by the US defense system has once again failed with an interceptor failing to hit an incoming ballistic missile over the Pacific Ocean.The advanced missile-defense interceptor, fired from Vandenberg air base in California failed to hit a long-range ballistic missile launched from an American Army test site at Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands.


Dr P Raghu Ram Received International Gold Medal

On 5 July 2013 Dr P Raghu Ram, director and consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon at KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases and CEO of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, Hyderabad has received the International Gold Medal from Dr Ian Ritchie, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd).
