Sumitra Mahajan Elected As 16th Lok Sabha Speaker
Veteran BJP leader Sumitra Mahajan was 6 June unanimously elected Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha, becoming the second woman to occupy the prestigious position after her predecessor Meira Kumar. She was elected after a motion moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was adopted by voice vote called by pro tem Speaker Kamal Nath.
Vice Admiral Chopra Takes Over As Western Naval Commander
Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, the second seniormost officer of the Indian Navy, took over the charge of Western Naval Command (WNC) as Commander-in-Chief on 6 June. He was appointed two months after Vice Admiral Shekar Sinha took voluntary retirement. Anil Chopra a graduate from National Defence Academy, Pune is second senior-most officer of the Indian Navy and only second officer to head both the operational commands – Eastern and Western Naval Command.
