Mali President Names Modibo Keita As New Prime Minister
Mali’s President Boubacar Keita named a former head of government, Modibo Keita, as the new Prime Minister after the previous government resigned. Modibo Keita succeeded Moussa Mara who resigned on 8 January under pressure from the President due to the strife-torn condition of the nation.
Qantas Named World’s Safest Airline
Australia’s national airline Qantas was named as the world’s safest airline by AirlineRatings.com.The airline was lauded for amassing an extraordinary record of firsts in safety history and operations over its 94-year history.The website announced its top ten safest airlines and top ten safest low cost airlines for 2015 from 449 it monitors.
Former Chief Justice RK Manisana Died
Rajkumar Manisana, the former Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and chairman of newspapers and news agencies wage board, died on 8 January. He was 82. Rajkumar Manisana started his career as a lawyer in 1956 and became an advocate on 15 July 1958. He was the advocate cum public prosecutor of the Manipur Government from October 1972 to October 1974. In November 1979, he was appointed as the Advocate General of Manipur and became a justice of the Gauhati High Court in November 1984. Manisana became the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 24 January 1994. He was also appointed as the Chairman of the Assam Human Rights Commission in January 2002.
YP Singhal Named new Haryana DGP
Haryana Government appointed Yash Pal Singhal as Director General of Police (DGP). His appointment was confirmed by the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Singhal, IPS officer of the 1983 batch from Jind district of the State, has replaced SN Vashisht, an officer of the 1981 batch, who has been posted as Director General of State Vigilance Bureau in place of Singhal.
