The Solar Transit Of Venus Presented A Spectacular Show In The Space

In a rare space event, Venus, the second closest planet from the sun, passed in front of the sun on 6 June 2012.The view at the time the Venus was crossing though the Sun was incredible, as a tiny black dot appeared on the solar surface.Venus is 100th of the diameter of the sun so while moving across from one side to the other, just a black spot placed over on the disc of the sun. The celestial phenomenon which repeats itself in more than 100 year, will now be rewitnessed only in 2117.

China launched Its Fourth Human Spaceflight Shenzhou-9 Into Space

China on 16 June 2012 launched its fourth human spaceflight Shenzhou-9 from the Jiuquan satellite launch centre in north-western Gansu state. The 30.3 feet long and 9.1 feet diameter, Shenzhou -9 spacecraft will conduct the first manned docking mission and set the foundation for Chinese plans to build a space station by 2020.

China Sent Its First Woman Astronaut Liu Yang Into Space

Shenzhou-9 space mission also holds significance as its crew members comprise three astronauts including China’s first woman astronaut Liu Yang.Liu Yang, a cargo pilot in the People’s Liberation Army air force, is the first Chinese female astronaut, who has been sent on the space mission.

Aerial Microwave Radar Gauge Installed At Channel Mouth At Machilipatnam

To predict cyclones and Tsunamis Aerial Microwave Radar Gauge was installed at channel mouth at Machilipatnam.Though a collaborative project jointly implemented by DMS-SVH college of engineering, is association with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and National Institute of Ocean Graphy(NIO),Goa,Downward looking Aerial Microwave Radar Gauge was installed to measure accurate sea level. The sea level gets influenced by atmospheric pressure, wind etc. Following the depression there us a rise in the sea level.Under the Indo-French collaborative project of the ISRO, the NIO ,Goa has established a network of sea level gauge across the Indian coast and islands.

Scientists Create Bone From Fat Cell

For the first time , scientists have developed new bone from fresh an purified fat stem cell. The new procedure carried out on an animal model, is also hoped to be applied to produce  other tissues, including heart, skin and cartilage, a break through which they may say one day eliminate the need for painful bone grafts that use material taken from the patient.

Scientists Grow New Vein from Girl’s Stem Cell

For the first rime, Scientist led by an Indian – origin researcher have successfully replaced a major blood vessel in a 10 year old girl with a vein grown in a lab using her own stem cells. The pioneering transplant, published in The lancet, marks a further advance in growing body parts in laboratory and offers hopes for patients who lack suitable veins for dialysis or bypass surgery. In the landmark research, a team from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden took a vein from a dead man, stripped of its own cells and then bathed in stem cells from girl, who was suffering from portal vein obstruction. There was a ‘ striking’ improvement in her transplantation. This is the future for tissue engineering where we can make tailor-made organs in the lab.
