Tata Steel elevates T V Narendran as global CEO, MD

Tata Steel Limited promoted T V Narendran as chief executive officer and managing director globally. He joined the Tata Steel in 1988. He was serving as Managing Director (India and South East Asia) for the past four years.


Martina Hingis announces retirement from Pro Tennis

Martina Hingis, one of only six women’s players to hold the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles at the same time, will retire after the WTA Finals. Hingis, 37, won Grand Slam titles Nos. 24 and 25 at the US Open in September, capturing the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles. Overall, she won 13 major doubles titles, along with five in singles and seven in mixed doubles. She held the world No. 1 ranking for 209 weeks during her career, winning 43 WTA singles titles and 64 doubles titles.


Suresh Chukkapalli appointed as Consul General of Korea

Suresh Chukkapalli, Chairman of Phoenix Group of Hyderabad appointed as Honorary Consul General in Hyderabad by the Republic of Korea, with consular jurisdiction over the state of Telangana. Suresh Chukkapalli was given charge/ invested formally at a ceremony in New Delhi.


Neelamani N Raju appointed as DG-IGP of Karnataka

Neelamani N Raju was appointed as the first woman Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG-IGP) of Karnataka. Neelamani is a 1983-batch Indian Police Service officer. She succeeds R K Dutta, who retired from the service following his superannuation. She will retire in January 2020 and will serve as the Karnataka’s Police Chief for over 2 years.


Bharti AXA Life appoints Vikas Seth as CEO

Bharti AXA Life Insurance, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and AXA, appointed Vikas Seth as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is subject to requisite IRDAI approval. Prior to joining Bharti AXA Life, he was with the Aditya Birla Group, where he worked for nearly 10 years in different roles. He has also served as the Chief Distribution Officer for Birla Sun Life Insurance.


Haryana announces lifetime pensions for ‘Hindi Satyagrahis’

The state government of Haryana has announced lifetime monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for ‘Hindi Satyagrahis’ and those from the state who were jailed during the Emergency. The state government also announced that it would be providing enhanced financial assistance to World War-II veterans and their widows. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was the Chief Guest for the occasion.


Michael Jackson named top-earning dead celebrity

Michael Jackson, who died in the year 2009 i.e, Eight years ago, is still generating millions of dollars. Jackson named top-earning dead celebrity for the 5th time. He was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. He was one of the most popular entertainers in the world and was the best-selling music artist at the time of his death. His earnings have been estimated to be $75 million.


Diya wins medals in ITTF WCC

Indian table tennis player Diya Chitale won a silver medal in the girls’ doubles category of the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge, in Suva, Fiji. Diya hails from Mumbai. She was the only Indian player selected to represent Asia in this tournament. Diya also won a gold medal in the Team event, as part of Team Asia.


ERO-Net launched in Rajasthan

Rajasthan’s Chief Electoral Officer Ashwini Bhagat launched the Election Commission’s web-based project, ERO-Net, using which voters can register their names on electoral rolls. The Electoral Roll Management System (ERMS) software was being used to make voter lists. It could not identify multiple entries of a voter. ERMS software has been replaced with ERO-Net, which is a transparent mechanism to identify whether the voter was listed anywhere in the country.
