India retains WHO Regional Director position
India retained the top WHO position in South-East Asia Region with Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh unanimously re-elected as Regional Director for another five-year term beginning February 2019. The elections were held at the ongoing regional committee meeting of WHO South-East Asia.
International Aviation Summit
International Aviation Summit was held in New Delhi. The seminar has been jointly organised by the Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation and International Air Transport Association (IATA). There was an overwhelming response to the summit which was attended by more than 700 delegates and leaders from global aviation fraternity.

RBI bought 8.46 tonne of gold in fiscal 2018
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has bought 8.46 tonne of gold in the financial year 2017-18, the first purchase of gold by the apex bank in almost nine years. RBI purchased 200 tonne of gold in November 2009 from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Japan to test mini space elevator
Researchers at Shizuoka University, a Japanese team, has developed a space elevator, a miniature version on satellites. The first trial of the miniature version of the apparatus and monitoring equipment on satellites will be conducted in the month of September.
International Women Entrepreneurs Summit
The International Women Entrepreneurs Summit 2018 is being held in Kathmandu, Nepal. Vice President of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the summit. He expressed concern over increasing violence against women and highlighted the need for public efforts to eliminate it.
RP Singh announces retirement from International Cricket
Indian Pacer RP Singh announced his retirement from International Cricket, exactly 13 years after making his international debut. The 32-year-old, who was a part of India’s 2007 World T20-winning team, played 82 international matches and picked up over 100 wickets between 2005 and 2011.
Bhagwati Kumar Sharma passes away
Noted Gujarati author, journalist and poet Bhagwati Kumar Sharma passed away in Surat. He was 84. Born in 1934 in Surat, Shri Bhagwati Kumar Sharma had received Sahitya Academy award for his Gujarati novel Ashuryalok. Mr Sharma received Gujarati literature awards Ranjitram suvarna chandrak and Kumar paritoshik.
