Ritankar Das is Century's Youngest California University Topper
On 10 May An 18-year-old Indian-American has become the youngest graduate topper of the prestigious University of California in more than a century.Kolkata-born Ritankar Das, has been named as the University Medalist, the prize which is given to the year's top graduating senior.Das has taken just three years to complete his studies with a double major in bioengineering and chemical biology and a minor in creative writing from the University of California, Berkeley.Further he is the first student from the College of Chemistry in 58 years, and the first ever from the Department of Bioengineering.
Kapil Sibal gets additional charge of Law & C.P. Joshi gets Railway
On 11 May Telecom minister Kapil Sibal took additional charge of law ministry and road and transport minister C P Joshi the railway portfolio in the wake of resignations of incumbents Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal respectively.Sibal and Joshi took charge of these portfolios in addition to their existing ministries of telecom and IT and road and transport respectively.
MiG-29K fighter planes commissions into Navy
On May 11,Defence Minister AK Antony commissioned warfare aircraft MiG-29K Black Panther squadron into the Indian Navy.The commissioning was held at INS Hansa which would be the base for Black Panther squadron along with other fighter aircraft squadrons of Indian Navy. The squadron initially comprising 16 aircraft would be known as IANS 303.
Two Indian Teenagers Awarded Thiel Fellowship
On 11 May Two Indian teenagers have been conferred with the prestigious "20 Under 20" Thiel Fellowship 2013, worth $100,000 each, which allows youngsters to pursue their own business idea.
