Serena Williams becomes oldest `World Number 1`

Serena Williams became the oldest woman to claim the world number one ranking when she reached the Qatar Open semi-finals with a 3-6 6-3 7-5 win over Petra Kvitova.Chris Evert at 30 was the previous oldest world number one.Now the Serena Williams became the oldest "World Number 1" and Chris Evert became the second.


International wrestling chief resigns

President of wrestling's world governing body FILA resigned from his position in the wake of the recommendation to drop the sport from the Olympics.Switzerland's Raphael Martinetti had been the president of FILA since 2002.Martinetti was issued with a vote of no confidence at a FILA executive committee meeting in Thailand.


India, Bangladesh sign MoUs, exchange strip maps

On 16 February 2013,India and Bangladesh have exchanged strip maps as part of the process of the implementation of the agreement signed to resolve land boundary issues between the two countries.In a symbolic gesture to mark the process, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni exchanged one strip map at the end of the Joint consultative commission meeting in Dhaka on 16 February 2013.In addition, two MOUs were also signed for the construction of a rail link to connect Akhaura in Bangladesh to Agartala in India and for setting up a think-tank to be called Bangladesh-India Foundation.


US tries to woo more Indians through Startup 3.0

Targeting highly skilled talents from India and China, a bi-partisan group of US lawmakers have introduced a new bill in the Congress to create more than 125,000 new visas to attract global talents to America.The bill called Startup 3.0 proposes to help increase America's access to talent by creating a new set of conditional visas for 75,000 immigrant entrepreneurs and 50,000 foreign STEM (Science technology, engineering and math) graduate students.
