IOC to lift ban on IOA 

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Jitender Singh during a news conference on 16 May 2013 informed that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had decided to lift the ban from Indian Olympic association (IOA). The IOC had banned India after refusing to recognize the results of IOA elections held on December 5 due to government interference, which led to a tainted official being named its new secretary general. The IOA and sports ministry blamed each other for failing to arrive at a consensus over the controversial code, which would restrict age and term limits for sports administrators.


Sanjay Dutt surrenders before TADA court

On 16 May 2013 Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt  surrendered before the designated TADA court in Mumbai to serve his three-and-a-half year sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case.


Union Government of India decided to launch DBTL Scheme

Government of India decided to launch Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme in 20 high Aadhaar coverage districts from 1 June 2013.The scheme aims to curb leakages and prevent black-marketing and provide subsidy to consumers in their bank accounts.

Government Raises OBC Creamy Layer Income Limit to Rs 6 Lakh

On 16 May The Union Cabinet gave its approval for increase in the present income criterion of Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum for applying the Creamy Layer restriction throughout the country, to avail benefits of reservations in government jobs and admissions to central educational institutions.The decision came up in a view to increase the income limits in tune with the increase of the consumer price index. This would enable more people to take an advantage of reservation benefits that are extended to OBCs. Creamy layer is the income limit beyond which OBCs are not eligible for quotas


David Beckham announced his Retirement

On 16 may,Legendary Footballer and Former England captain David Beckham announced his retirement from professional football and gave an end to his illustrious career of more than two decades. He will retire from the professional football after the end of this season.
