5.9 earthquake strikes Japan off Fukushima coast

On may 18, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake reportedly struck Honshu island.No damage to life or property had been reported.According to United States Geological Survey (UNGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was reportedly over 200 kms northeast of Tokyo at a depth of around 50 kms. An earthquake with a magnitude measured at 5.9 by Japan’s Meteorological Agency has struck the northeast of the country. The epicenter was close to the Fukushima coast and only 200km from Tokyo, causing buildings in the capital to shake.


India won Bronze medal in Archery

Indian women’s compound team which comprised Gagandeep Kaur, Trisha Deb, and P Lily Chanu, won Bronze medal on 18 May 2013 at Shanghai. This is India’s first ever world medal in archery.


Anand Finishes Fourth in Norway Chess

Viswanathan Anand got Fourth place in Norway super chess tournment. He defeated by Wang Hao of China in 38 moves of the last round on 18 may 2013. Sergei karjakin(Russia) clinch the title with 6 points.But loss in last round he got a fourth place jointly with Peter Svidler(Russia) and Levon Aronian(Armenia).


45th Indian Labour Conference Held in New Delhi

The 45th Session of the Indian Labour Conference was held from 17th to 18th May at New Delhi .The Conference concluded with a resolve to provide universal social security coverage and assured pension to the entire working population.During the course of Conference the Labour Ministers of State Governments, Central Trade Union Leaders, Employers representatives, and Officials of the central and state governments also deliberated on service conditions, wages and social security for various categories of workers employed in different Central and State Government schemes.
