India & Bangladesh signed MoU on Textiles Cooperation
On 19 August India and Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in textiles.The Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Zohra Chatterjee and the Sr. Secretary, Textiles, Bangladesh, Ashraful Moqbul have signed this MoU for cooperation in Textile sector, in the presence of the Union Minister for Textiles, Dr. Kavuru Sambasiva Rao, the Minister of Textiles Bangladesh, Abdul Latif Siddique and Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Textiles, Panabaka Lakshmi, in New Delhi.
Singapore Honours Indian Librarian Rasu Ramachandran For Contribution To Field
On 19 August Singapore has honoured Indian origin librarian, Rasu Ramachandran, for his contributions to the development of the library profession over the past four decades.Ramachandran received Lifetime Contribution Award from Singapore President Tony Tan at a ceremony .Ramachandran, who joined the library in 1969, has helped draft the National Library Board (NLB) Act in 1995 which established the library with more flexibility and freedom to expand.Ramachandran served as a deputy chief executive officer of NLB for four years (2000-04), and as the secretary-general of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for a year.The awards were given as part of Singapore hosting the 79th IFLA World Library and Information Congress.
