Justice P. Sathasivam Sworn In As Chief Justice Of India
On 19 July 2013,Justice P. Sathasivam, seniormost judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in as the 40th Chief Justice of India.Justice Sathasivam, who succeeds Justice Altamas Kabir, will have a brief tenure till April 26, 2014.He is the first CJI from Tamil Nadu.
Obama Appointed Indian - American To Top South And Central Asia Job
On 19 July U.S. President Barack Obama has nominated an Indian-American woman, Nisha Desai Biswal, to a top State Department role overseeing India and a vast swathe of nations in the region, the key post of Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia (SCA).Nisha Desai Biswal, who is currently the Assistant Administrator for Asia at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will replace incumbent Blake to head the South Asia bureau in the US State Department.Desai has become the first person of Indian-origin to head the bureau, which oversees US foreign policy and relations with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
