Indian population booms in Australia: Census Data

Latest official census data in Australia has found a boom in Indian population especially with number of Punjabi speaking people rising by over 200 percent.This is the 16th census taken in Australia over the past 100 years with about 9.8 million households surveyed on August 9 last year.The data revealed Australia's population rose to 21,507,719, up almost two million - or more than 8 percent -in the past five years, and the median age of the growing population rose from 37 in 2006 to 38 when the census was counted last year. The United Kingdom stood as the leading country of birth for the overseas-born population at 20.8 percent and was followed by New Zealand(9.1 percent), China (6.0 percent) and India (5.6 percent).People of Indian origin have seen the largest growth increase at more than 14 percent since 2006, or up almost 150,000.


Oracle CEO Buys Hawaii's Sixth Largest Island

Billionaire Oracle CEO Larry Ellison bought 98 percent of Hawaii's sixth-largest island, Lanai, the state's governor announced on 20 June. Ellison, ranked in 2012 as America's third-richest man, is purchasing the property from fellow billionaire David Murdock.


NIA Cheif Radha Vinod Raju passes Away

Radha Vinod Raju, founding Director-General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and key member of the special investigation team which probed Rajiv Gandhi assassination, died in Kochi on 21 June 2012.


Calcutta High Court scrapped the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011

The Calcutta High Court on 22 June 2012, held the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011 as unconstitutional and void. The legislation enabled the government to recover the disputed Singur land from Tata Motors, who was leased 997 acre of land at Singur in Hooghly district by previous left front government in the state.

John E. Bryson announced his resignation as President Obama’s commerce secretary on 21 June 2012, citing medical reasons after an episode in which he had a seizure and was involved in a sequence of car crashes.


Former Indian Ambassador Abid Hussain Dead

Abid Hussain who was among those who helped break mental barrier after the end of the cold war,passed away in London on 21 June morning after a massive heart attack, He was 85 years old.The normal career progression of an Indian Administrative service(IAS) cadre office.which wound up in the commerce Ministry, Dr.Hussain was one of the key persons who set ball rolling for India's economic liberalization.
