World Water Day on March 22nd

World Water Day is celebrated across the world on 22 March every year. This day was first celebrated back in the year 1993. World Water Day is an initiative of United Nations for celebrating the value of freshwater in the world.


Arunachal Pradesh introduces e-GPF

Arunachal Pradesh became the first state to introduce e-GPF with the state Finance Department facilitating online access to 34,000 GPF accounts through its redesigned Web site, which was formally launched by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.The Web site will help the public to access all updated fiscal information including 34,000 GPF accounts besides pensioners, who from anywhere in India could get information on their hard earned pension and fastest disposal of RTI cases.The Web site www.arunachalfinance.in has a number of features to make it citizen-friendly and to bring in more transparency and accountability in respect of works in the Finance Department.


Barack Obama nominates Indian-American Renee Ramaswamy to National Council on Arts

On March 22 US President Barack Obama nominated Indian-American Renee Ramaswamy, a Bharatanatayam exponent, to the prestigious National Council of the Arts for a five year term.Ramaswamy founded the Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1992 and has been popularising this classical Indian dance form in America.Among her many grants and fellowships are 13 McKnight Artist Fellowships, a Bush Fellowship, and an Artist Exploration Fund grant from Arts International. Her work is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Dance Project, and the Japan Foundation.


Nigerian Author Chinua Achebe Died

 On 22 March Renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has died at the age of 82 .One of Africa's best known authors, his 1958 debut novel Things Fall Apart, which dealt with the impact of colonialism in Africa, has sold more than 10 million copies.
