Yuichiro Miura, Became Oldest Man to Climb Mount Everest

Yuichiro Miura, the 80-year old mountaineer from Japan reached Mount Everest’s summit on 23 May 2013. With this, he became the oldest man to climb the highest mountain peak of the world. Yuichiro Miura climbed the Everest at the age of 70 and 75 as well.


Carole King Became the First Woman to Receive Gershwin Prize

US singer-songwriter Carole King became the first woman to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.The President of America, Barack Obama conferred upon her, the Gershwin Prize that is given as a lifetime achievement in popular music.


Japanese PM Abe on historic visit to Myanmar; strengthening economic ties on agenda

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is heading to Myanmar in the first visit by a Japanese head of government since 1977. A business delegation will accompany Mr Abe, who is keen to strengthen economic ties with Myanmar. Japan is a key aid donor to Myanmar, and maintained trade relations with the country during its years of rule by military junta.Mr Abe is expected to announce 980 million dollar in development aid during his visit. Mr Abe will also meet Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who he met in Japan last month.


Malayalam to be granted status of classical language

Malayalam will soon be granted the status of a classical language, the Union Cabinet on 23 May 2013 approved classifying Malayalam as a 'Classical Language'


SAARC judges meeting in Thimpu on child rights in S.Asia

On 23 May 2013, top judges from eight SAARC member nations began discussion on constitutional guarantees available to children in the South Asian region and the challenges faced in enforcing child protection laws.The 12th SAARCLAW Annual Conference and the 9th SAARC Chief Justices Conference is on in Thimpu in Bhutan.Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir is representing India in the Chief Justices' conference, while Justice B A Khan, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, is heading the delegation to the SAARCLAW conference.


India's First Yoga University in Gujarat

On 23 May Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's first yoga university in Ahmedabad.Lakulish Yoga University, established by Life Mission Trust of Gujarat, is claimed to be the first ever such private sector self-financed institution in the country.
