Deepika Kumari Won 34th National Archery Championship
Deepika Kumari of Jharkhand won her sixth consecutive title at the 34th National Archery Championships at JRD Tata Stadium of PSPB, Jamshedpur on 25 December. Deepika by winning the sixth National title consecutively has set the record of winning the most individual titles at the national meet. Earlier it was Dola Banerjee who won five national titles.The men’s individual recurve crown went to Atanu Das of PSPB who should thank veteran Muni Ram Tirkey of Services in gifting the title.
Serena Williams Named AP Female Athlete of the Year
Serena Williams has been named the Associated Press (AP) ' Female Athlete of the Year ' after a dominant season in which she won the U.S. Open and French Open and finished No.1 in the WTA rankings for the first time since 2009. The honor is the third time Williams has won the award, with her stellar 2002 and 2009 seasons giving her the nod over other candidates. Only two women (Chris Evert, Babe Didrikson Zaharias) have won the award more times than the tennis superstar.
