Pulitzer Prize-winner Anthony Lewis passed away
On March 25 Anthony Lewis, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and a former New York Times columnist and reporter, died.Lewis won his first Pulitzer in 1955, while he was a reporter at The Washington Daily News, and his second in 1963 at the Times.
3 NRIs honoured for promoting Hindi in UK
Three NRIs and a Nottingham-based organisation have been honoured by the Indian High Commission in London for their outstanding work in promoting Hindi in the UK.The awardees are: Mahendra Kishore Verma of York University, Krishna Kumar, Chairman of Gitanjali Multilingual Literary Circle, Birmingham, Kavita Vachaknavi, internationally renowned blogger, and Kavya Rang, a Global Association of Poets, Writers, Nottingham, UK.High Commissioner Jaimini Bhagwati presented them with shields, shawls and citations last evening in connection with World Hindi Day 2013.
2013 Abel Prize To Belgian Pierre Deligne
Belgian mathematician Pierre Deligne who is regarded as one of the most celebrated mathematicians of the 20th century, has been chosen for this year’s prestigious Abel Prize in Mathematics.Award is given to him for his “seminal contributions to algebraic geometry and for their transformative impact on number theory, representation theory and related fields.The Abel Prize is an international prize presented by the King of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians.
Mir Hazar Khan Khoso Sworn in as Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan
On 25 March Justice Retd. Mir Hazar Khan Khoso took oath as the sixth caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan on 25 March 2013 in Islamabad. The oath was administered by President Asif Ali Zardari at the ceremony which was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
