Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrives in Japan on 3-day visit

On 27 May 2013,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived to Tokyo on a three-day visit to Japan to invigorate bilateral strategic ties and push for a civil nuclear energy cooperation deal. He will talk with Japan PM Abe on 29 May 2013.


England will host 2019 World Cup

On 27 May 2013 the England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) announced that  England has been officially chosen to host the 2019 Cricket World Cup.


66th Cannes Film Festival

The 66th Cannes Film Festival was closed on 26 May 2013. Blue is the Warmest Colour (La Vie D'Adèle Chapitres 1 et 2) which is directed by French-Tunisian filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche won the top honour - the Palme d'Or - at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.With this the runner-up award, the Grand Prix, went to Inside Llewyn Davis which is directed by the Coen brothers. It is important here to note that the Coen brothers had won the Palme d'Or in 1991. Also, the Jury Prize went to Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-Eda for Like Father, Like Son. Mexico's Amat Escalante won the best director prize for his film Heli. Hollywood veteran actor Bruce Dern took the best actor prize for his performance in Nebraska. Argentine-born Frenchwoman Berenice Bejo was awarded the best actress prize for her role in The Past.


EU Lifted Arms Embargo on Syrian Rebels

On 27 May European foreign ministers have lifted an arms embargo on Syria,, paving the way for individual EU member states to provide weapons to the Syrian rebels. After long and continuous hour of talk EU governments failed to agree on extending the arms embargo, which effectively ends the EU's ban on supplying arms to the rebels. Some other restrictive measures against Syria , which include financing restrictions, travel bans and asset freezes is also supposed to be extended for a year, as there is a fear that the entire sanctions regime could fall over a failure to agree on the arms issue.


Kushal Singh Appointed as the Chairperson of NCPCR

On 27 May Mrs. Kushal Singh has been appointed as the Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.Mrs. Kushal Singh has held several high level posts in the Government of Rajasthan and the Central Government.She was the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan.


'Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership' Book Released

On 27 May "Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership ", written by former Indian diplomat-turned-Gandhian Pascal Alan Nazareth, was released at the Peking University's Centre.Prof Shang Quanyu, a history professor with the South China Normal University, translated the book into Madarin.
