NK Singh Appointed as 15th Finance Commission Chairman

The government announced that former revenue secretary NK Singh will be the chairman of the 15th Finance Commission (FC) that will recommend distribution of taxes between the Centre and the states. Other members of the commission are former department of economic affair secretary Shaktikanta Das, Anoop Singh, professor at Georgetown University, former chief economic advisor Ashok Lahiri, agricultural expert and NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand. Chand and Lahiri are part time members. The commission has to submit its report by October 30, 2019.


Aegon Life Insurance Appoints Vineet Arora as MD & CEO

Aegon Life Insurance today announced the appointment of Vineet Arora as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer. Vineet Arora will replace K S Gopalakrishnan. Chief People Officer of Aegon Life Insurance, Saba Adil, will serve as the interim In-charge and Principal Officer.


Hindustani classical music exponent Pandit Narayanrao Bodas passes away

Eminent exponent of Gwalior gharana of Hindustani classical music, Pandit Narayanrao Bodas, passed away in Pune, Maharashtra after a brief illness. He was 84. He was revered for his deep voice and expressive face among actor vocalists.


Shaktikanta Das appointed as India’s G 20 Sherpa

The Union Ministry of Finance has appointed Shaktikanta Das, Former Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) as India’s G 20 Sherpa till December 31, 2018 for Development Track of G20. Sherpa is personal representative of leaders participating at G-20 summit and are responsible for thrashing out details before meeting of the leaders.


Japanese professor Horoshi Marui conferred with 3rd ICCR Distinguished Indologist Award

President Ram Nath Kovind on 27 November 2017 conferred the 3rd ICCR Distinguished Indologist Award to Professor Hiroshi Marui of Japan for his exemplary contribution to Indology. Indology is defined as the academic study of the history, cultures, languages and literature of India and is a subset of Asian studies.


India Win 10 Medals in Para Badminton World Championships

Indian contingent to BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in Ulsan, South Korea clinched 10 medals, including two golds. India’s Parul Parmar defeated Thailand’s Wannaphatdee Kamtam in the finals of the women’s singles Standing Lower (SL3). Other gold was also won by Parul Parmar, who paired with Japan’s Akiko Sugino in women’s doubles (SL 3-4) final.


Serene Valtteri Bottas Wins Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Valtteri Bottas won the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from pole position, beating his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton as Formula One’s season finale petered out into a procession. The Finnish driver comfortably secured the third win of his F1 career, all this season since joining from Williams. It was his 22nd career podium and 13th with Mercedes. Third spot in Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was occupied by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. This race took place at Yas Marina Cicuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)


PM Narendra Modi, Ivanka Trump Inaugurate Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump’s advisor and daughter Ivanka Trump jointly inaugurated 8th annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES 2017) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The mega event was co-hosted by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog and US Government.


Karen Pierce appointed as Britain’s Ambassador to UN

With this appointment, Pierce became the first woman to be appointed to this role. Previously she served as Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and had served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York as well & nbsp.


IAS Officer B.N. Sharma appointed Chairman, National Anti-profiteering Authority

Following the Union Cabinet’s approval for the creation of the National Anti-profiteering Authority under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, the Centre appointed senior IAS officer B.N. Sharma as the first chairman of the apex body.


Nirmala Sitharaman Elected IDSA President

Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman elected as President of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA). The previous Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, had resigned from the post after shifting to Goa as Chief Minister.


7th World Military Games to be Held at Wuhan in China

The 7th international military games will be held in Wuhan city in the central China’s Hubei Province. The International Military Sports Council (CISM)’s Military World Games is a top sport event for military personnel. It comprises 329 competitions in 27 categories and is expected to attract around 8,000 participants from more than 100 countries and regions.
