MS Dhoni Announced Retirement From Test Cricket
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. Dhoni decided to retire from Test Cricket by citing the strain of playing all formats of Cricket. Now he wants to concentrate on ODI and T20 formats. His decision to retire from Test Cricket came after the Third Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Although the match ended in a draw, however, Dhoni surpassed Kumar Sangakkara record of stumping 134 players in all the three formats. In his Test career, he has played 90 matches and scored 4876 runs in 144 innings.His highest Test score is 224 runs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rekha Crowned Hottest Vegetarians By PETA
People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has named Prime Minister Narendra Modi and veteran actress Rekha as the hottest vegetarian celebrities. PETA every year salutes the hottest vegetarian celebrities and this time it is none other that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood's evergreen diva Rekha. Rekha, winner of three Filmfare Awards as well as an award for her outstanding achievements in Indian cinema, credits her healthy vegetarian diet and practise of yoga with helping her achieve an impressive level of fitness. Narendra Modi, the 15th and current Prime Minister of India, practises yoga to stay fit and dines on animal-friendly vegetarian foods whenever he meets with international delegates.
Veteran Journalist BG Verghese Died
Veteran journalist BG Verghese, who in 1975 won the Ramon Magsaysay award for outstanding journalism, died on 30 December. He was 87. Verghese, who edited HT from 1969 to 1975, was also editor of the Indian Express from 1982 to 1986. Verghese was also information adviser to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1966 to 1969 but was critical of her for having imposed the Emergency in 1975. He was part of the Editors Guild of India Fact Finding Mission after the Gujarat riots in 2002. His books include Waters of Hope, India’s Northeast, Fourth Estate and his autobiography First Draft: Witness to Making of Modern India. His last book, Post Haste: Quintessential India — which delves on India’s ancient heritage and its diverse people — was released early this year.
