Angela Merkel to step down as German chancellor in 2021
Germany’s Angela Merkel has said she will step down as chancellor in 2021, following recent election setbacks. She also said she would not seek re-election as leader of the centre-right CDU party in December. She has held the post since 2000.
Rohini Bopanna appointed Hockey’s International Technical Official
Hockey India congratulated Rohini Bopanna on being promoted as FIH International Technical Official by the FIH Officials Committee. Earlier this year, Bopanna was also appointed as a technical official for the 5th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2018 held in Donghae City, South Korea.

International Conference on Status and Protection of Coral Reefs (STAPCOR – 2018) was held at Bangaram Island, Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The theme of the conference was “Reef for Life”. It was inaugurated by Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
RBI to inject Rs 40,000 Crore in November via OMO
The Reserve Bank of India has announced that it will inject Rs 40,000 crore into the system in November through the purchase of government securities as it looks to meet festive season demand for funds. The central bank had already injected Rs 36,000 crore into the system in October through open market operation (OMO).

Simona Halep becomes first recipient of Chris Evert WTA World No.1 Trophy . She is the first recipient of the Chris Evert Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) World No.1 Trophy, named after WTA’s first-ever world number one, Chris Evert.
India & Pakistan declared joint winners of Asian Champions Trophy
In Men’s Hockey, India and Pakistan were declared joint winners of the Asian Champions Trophy at Muscat in Oman. The tournament director declared both teams as winners after the summit clash was called off due to heavy rain. Defending champions India, thus, ended the tournament unbeaten. Before this edition, both India and Pakistan had won the tournament twice each.
Roger Federer won 99th career title in his Hometown
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer won his 99th career title after winning the Basel Open for the ninth time in his career. Federer, who was born in the Swiss city of Basel, won his fourth title of the year in the form of the Basel Open.
Urdu writer Qazi Abdussattar passes away
Professor and Urdu writer Qazi Abdussattar, died following a long term illness, in Delhi. Qazi Abdussattar was 85 years old. He was the former head of Aligarh Muslim University’s Urdu department. He had won Padma Shri in 1974. He was the first recipient of Ghalib Academy Award in 1978.
