U.S. and China Hold Bilateral Talks

On 7 June The U.S. President Barack Obama and China President Xi Jinping concluded their latest round of high-level trade talks. In the meeting both countries agreeing to inject new vitality to bilateral trade and economic relations. The US and China will work together and with other countries to use the expertise and institutions of the Montreal Protocol to phase down the consumption and production of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), among other forms of multilateral cooperation. Both nations agreed to work together on the crucial cyber security issues that have spiraled tensions between the two nations.


Highest Krishi Vigyan Kendra to be Opened at Nyoma, Leh

Nation’s highest Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) will be set up at Nyoma, Leh district of Jammu & Kashmir at a height of about 14000 feet.The main aim of the KVK center in the location is to improve fodder production of the region and provide fine health care to roaming animals in the area.It also aims towards introducing vegetable production under protected environment and impart training to women on animal care.


Kevin Barry is 2013 IMPAC winner

Irish writer Kevin Barry has won the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for his first novel, City of Bohane.It is the third time that an Irish author has won the €100,000 prize.The Award is organised by Dublin City Libraries, on behalf of Dublin City Council and sponsored by IMPAC, an international management productivity company.The prize was previously awarded to Colm Tóibín in 2006 for The Master and to Colum McCann in 2011 for Let the Great World Spin.


"Roshni" Scheme Launched In Naxal Affected Districts

Union Government of India launched a placement linked skill development scheme 'Roshni'  targeting 50,000 rural men and women, mostly tribals, in 24 worst affected districts.Under the scheme, national-level agencies will be designated to act as monitoring and coordinating agencies in the Naxal-hit districts.The three-year initiative aims at skilling and placement of 50,000 youth from 24 Naxalite-affected districts in nine states.The funding for the ‘Roshni’ scheme would be in the ratio of 75:25 to be shared between the Centre and the states.


Researchers Leads To Discovery To Create Early Warning System For Tsunamis

On 7 June Researchers from Stanford University  have identified key acoustic characteristics of the 2011 Japan earthquake that indicated it would cause a large tsunami.In 2011, a magnitude 9.0 undersea earthquake occurred 43 miles off the shore of Japan. The earthquake generated an unexpectedly massive tsunami that washed over eastern Japan roughly 30 minutes later.Now, computer simulations by Stanford scientists reveal that sound waves in the ocean produced by the earthquake probably reached land tens of minutes before the tsunami. If correctly interpreted, they could have offered a warning that a large tsunami was on the way.


Anil Swarup Committee Set Up To Re-start Stalled Projects

On 7 June Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced a committee has been appointed to identify and help re-start as many as 215 large projects worth over Rs 7 lakh crore which have been stalled for years and assured that each of these projects will be off the ground at the earliest.A committee headed by Anil Swarup.
