India and US signed Inter-governmental Agreement To Implement FATCA

India and the US on 9 July signed an inter-governmental agreement to implement the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) towards greater transparency between the two countries on tax matters. The agreement was signed by Revenue Secretary Shaktikanta Das and US Ambassador to India Richard Verma in New Delhi.The agreement will promote transparency on tax matters between the two countries.


Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan Launched by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, former President of India launched the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) on 9 July in New Delhi. “Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan” (RAA) primarily seeks to develop a natural sense of passion towards learning of Science and Maths in school students of the country. Under this initiative, government schools will be mentored by Institutes like IITs/ IIMs/ IISERs and other Central Universities and reputed organisations through innovative programmes, student exchanges, demonstrations, student visits, etc to inculcate a spirit of inquiry amongst students towards the two subjects. This is the Phase I of RAA, while Phase II of RAA will be launched in January, 2016 for higher education under which model science labs will be established in all districts of the North Eastern States.


Ashok Kumar Lahiri To Be Bandhan Bank Chairman

Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former chief economic adviser to the Indian government, will be the chairman of the upcoming Kolkata-based Bandhan Bank.The bank will start its operations from 23 August 2015 and will be inaugurated by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.


 Notable Urdu Poet Bashar Navaaz Died

Renowned Urdu poet Bashar Nawaz, who penned the popular song 'Karoge yaad to har baat yaad aayegi' in the Hindi film Bazaar, died on 9 July in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He was known as an Indo Pak shayar as his gazals are popular in India as well as Pakistan. Born on August 18, 1935 at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. His writings were regularly published in various Urdu literary journals magazines in India and abroad. His books Rayagan, Ajanabee samandar were very popular among gazal lovers.
