Anshu Jamsenpa becomes first Indian Woman to Conquer Mt. Everest twice within 5 days
India’s Anshu Jamsenpa has become the first Indian Woman to Conquer Mount Everest twice within five days. Anshu Jamsenpa along with Nepali climber Furi sherpa scaled the peak on 21st of May. With this Jamsenpa becoming the first woman climber to make double ascent in 5days time. She is also the first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest for the fifth time.
Indian boy wins top Intel Science Award in US
An Indian boy has won the World’s largest pre-college science competition in the US in the environmental engineering category. His project was on biodegradation of pesticides. Prshant Ranganathan, a 12th grader from Jamshedpur, along with 20 high school students from various parts of India. Participated in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. In all, more than 1700 students from across the world participated in the week-long event.
National Anti Terrorism Day observed on 21st May
National Anti Terrorism Day was observed on May 21 across the country to raise the awareness of the danger of terrorism and violence. The day is celebrated to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Chamba Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhada administered the anti-terrorism pledges to the officers and employees of various departments.
NASA honours APJ Abdul Kalam by naming new species after him
NASA paid tribute to late President of India APJ Abdul Kalam by naming a newly discovered organism after him. As of now, the bacterium named “Solibacillus Kalamii” by NASA scientist Kasthuri Venkateswaran, is found only on the ISS, which is orbiting Earth at 400 KM. Kalam had trained at NASA in 1963 before setting up India’s first rocket launching facility in Kerala.
1st Indian Woman elected to city of London Corporation
Rehana Ameer, a 43 year old UK entrepreneurs, has become the first Indian born woman to be elected as a Councillor to the city of London Corporation. Ameer, who was born and raised in Chennai, aims to promote city’s businesses in International Markets and focuses on road safety, improved air quality and developing the city’s presence overseas.
