Japan to build war museum in Manipur for Japanese soldiers

Japan will build a war museum at the hillock at Maiba Lokpa in Manipur. Japanese Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu has announced. Hiramatsu said that around 70,000 Japanese soldiers had died during World War II in Imphal and Kohima, between the months March and June in 1944. Meanwhile Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has offered to assist the Japanese Government.


Free Wi-Fi facility inaugurated at 28 Railways Stations in India

Union Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu inaugurated free Wi-Fi Internet facility at 28 Railway station in Maharashtra. Indian Railways has tied up with SYSCON/JOISTER for providing 2 mbps peer to peer 24 hours free Wi-Fi bandwidth. The free Wi-Fi facility would help the travellers, commuters, and tourists access essential information while waiting for trains on railway stations.


India win all 10 gold medals in South Asian

In the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship India has won 10 gold medals. It was a proud moment for India. The tournament was held in Mount lavinia, near Colombia in Sri Lanka. Apart from 10 gold medals, the Indian participants have also won 4 Silver medals that total makes to 14. In this Championship Manav Thakkar won Junior boys final Archana Girish Kamath won Junior Girls final.


 Alexander Zverev clinches Italian Open Single Title

Alexander Zverev on 21 May 2017 defeated World No.2 Novak Djokovic 6-4,6-3 to win the Italian Open. The Final was held in Rome, Italy. With the win, Zverev became the youngest Master 1000 titlist. Now, he entered the ATP top 10 for the first time after defeating Novak Djokovic in the final of the Italian Open. Between October 2013 and June 2014, he was the No.1 Ranked boys junior player.


 “No Helmet No Petrol” drive begins in Lucknow

‘Lucknow Police on 22 May, 2017 began a new drive in Uttar Pradesh Capital where in Petrol will not be provided to refill the tanks of two wheelers, it the riders are found not wearing a helmet. Reportedly, the government has asked all petrol pumps to report Vehicle numbers to transport authorities whenever they found a two-wheeler without a helmet. Banners and posters will be put up at every petrol pump to create awareness among the people about the importance of wearing helmets.


 International Day of Biological Diversity 22 May

The International Day of Biological Diversity (IDB) is celebrated annually on May 22 around the globe by United Nations. The theme for IDB 2017 is “Biodiversity and sustainable Tourism”. It aims on the opportunity to raise awareness of the important contribution of sustainable tourism both to economic growth and to the conservation of biodiversity. The United Nations in the year 2000 adopted a proposal to proclaim May 22 the International Day for Biological Diversity.


 Mumbai Indians beat Rising Pune Supergiants to win 2017 IPL

Mumbai Indians on 21 May 2017 defeated Rising Pune Supergiant by 1 run to clinch the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League. It is the third time that the Mumbai Indians clinched the IPL winner title. With the win, Mumbai Indians became the first team to win three IPL titles. Krunal Pandya of Mumbai Indians was declared the Man of the Match. Mumbai Indians won the first title in 2013 and second title in 2015 by defeating Chennai Super Kings.


 India becomes second largest steel producer in the World

According to data released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), India has become the second largest stainless steel producer in the World after China. The International Stainless Steel Forum is a non-profit research and development organization which was founded in 1996. It serves as the focal point for the International stainless steel industry. India overtook Japan which was the second largest producer last year.


 Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flags off Tejas Express from Mumbai to Goa

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on 21st May, 2017 flagged off the much awaited Tejas Superfast Express from Mumbai to Goa. The train, which will cover the distance 630 km in less than 9 hours. The train has Ultra Modern amenities on board like LED TV, Wi-Fi and CCTV. The Tejas Express would operate between Mumbai and Karmali (Goa) five days a week during non-monsoon period and during monsoon. Just three days a week. It will run at a speed of 130 kmph.


 Cochin Port Trust Bags TWO Best Performance Awards

Cochin Port Trust has received two Best Performance Awards from Ministry of Shipping for the highest growth in operating surplus and also for achieving third highest growth in cargo traffic among the major ports in the year 2016-17. The awards were received from Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari by P.Raveendran, Chairman to Cochin Port Trust at a function held at Goa on 22 May, 2017.


 Bengaluru FC wins 38th Federation Cup Football Tournament

Bengaluru Football Club has won the 28th Federation cup Football tournament. In the final match they defeated depending Champions and 14 time winners Mohun Bagan with 2-0. The match went into extra time after neither of the teams could break the deadlock in 90 minutes. India international CK Vineeth, then, scored twice for Bengaluru in extra time helping them to win the tournament for just second time.
