Rasgulla gets GI status and it goes to Bengal

The controversy over the past several years has now been resolved between the West Bengal and the Odisha government over its claim on Rasgulla. West Bengal on 14th November 2017 won the long bitter battle over Rasgulla as Geographical Indications (GI), a Chennai-based Registry announced that one of India’s signature sweets originated in the state and not Odisha. Bengal and Odisha have been locked in a bitter fight over the GI registration of rasgulla since 2015.
