Union Government launches MAA, nation-wide breast feeding programme

The Union Government has launched MAA (Mothers’ Absolute Affection), a nation-wide breast feeding programme. It was launched by Union Health Minister & Family Welfare J P Nadda along with Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit who is brand ambassador of this campaign. MAA is an intensified programme of the Union Health Ministry that aims to enhance optimal breastfeeding practices in the country. It has been launched in an attempt to bring undiluted focus on promotion of breastfeeding and provision of counselling services for supporting breastfeeding through health systems. The programme has been named ‘MAA’ to signify the support a lactating mother requires from family members and at health facilities to breastfeed successfully.


Maharashtra Government to provide as many as 1,200 wi-fi hotspots in Mumbai

Chief Minister of Maharastra Government Mr. Devendra Fadnavis has stated that Maharashtra government will provide as many as 1,200 wi-fi hotspots in the megapolis as a part of transforming Mumbai into a Smart City. As the state government wants to make Mumbai a wi-fi city by May 2017 with 1,200 hotspots at important places. While out of the total of 1,200 hotspots, 500 will be operational in the first phase by November 2016.


Rio Olympics 2016 opens with a glittering ceremony in Rio De Janerio

The 31st edition of Summer Olympic Games opened in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It was declared open by Acting Brazilian President Michel Temer at the Maracana Stadium. The theme of the 31st edition of Summer Olympic Games was “World peace and Environment“. The 2016 Rio Olympics games are scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 5 to 21 August 2016. It is officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. It is for first time the summer Olympics will be held in South American Continent and Brazil is hosting it for the first time.


Vijay Rupani to be CM of Gujarat while Nitin Patel his Deputy

In a surprise move, BJP state chief Vijay Rupani has been named as the new Chief Minister of Gujarat while Nitin Patel as Deputy CM after a meeting of the BJP legislators at State Party headquarter. For the past few hours, the name of Nitin Patel was almost confirmed as the person to take over from Anandiben Patel, who resigned a few days ago. It is not known what transpired in the meeting resulting in this change in name.


Assamese Litterateur Mahim Bora passed away

Eminent Assamese litterateur Mahim Bora died due to old age problems in a private nursing home here, his family sources said. He was 92. He was a Padma Shri (2011) and Sahitya Akademi winner. He had received the Sahitya Akademi award for his most popular work ‘Edhani Mahir Hanhi’ in 2001 and the Assam Valley Literary award in 1998. Mr. Mahim Bora’s literary works include ‘Kathanibari Ghat’, ‘Bohubhuji Tribhuj’, ‘Much aru Manuh’, ‘Top’, ‘Tinir Tini Gol’.
