Union Govt aims to roll out GST from April 1, 2017

The Union Govt has set the ambitious target to roll out of the Goods and Services Tax, (GST) from 1st April 2017. It was announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after unveiling a detailed road map for GST implementation. This announcement was made after Rajya Sabha had passed, The Constitution (122nd Amendment) (GST) Bill, 2014. There will be two components of GST – Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST) in order to comply with federal structure of India. Thus both Centre and States have authority to simultaneously levy GST across the value chain. GST will be levied on every supply of goods and services. States will levy and collect the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) on all transactions within a State and Centre will levy and collect Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST).


China successfully launches first satellite for mobile telecommunication

China has successfully launched the first satellite dubbed as The Tiantong-01 for mobile telecommunication. It was launched on-board of the Long March-3B carrier rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre. The Tiantong-01 is the first satellite of China’s homemade satellite mobile telecom system. It is a key part of the country’s space information infrastructure. It will operate in a geosynchronous orbit (GEO) and shall establish a mobile network with ground facilities, providing services for China, Middle East, Africa and other areas.


Venkaiah Naidu launches Swachh Survekshan for 500 cities

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on 6 August launched Swachh Survekshan-2017 for 500 cities in the country with an idea to make competitive environment to make the cities clean and expedite the Swachh Bharat Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is the second round of survey to cover 500 cities and towns, including those with a population of one lakh and above, besides capital towns with less than one lakh population and towns known for heritage, tourism and hilly locations. The main objective of Swach Survekshan is not to point out shortcomings but to suggest ways to improve the state of cleanliness in the particular area.


Modi Launches PMO App At MyGov Anniversary Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the new PMO app at a function organised by MyGov in New Delhi. The app would correspond to the website of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The app is developed by a team of young engineering students from Delhi who has won the contest to develop the app. The new app will allow mobile users to connect with the website of the Prime Minister’s Office.
