Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM VSM assumes charge of Eastern Air Command of IAF
Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM VSM assumed charge of the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force, at Shillong, as its Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief. He is an alumnus of St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun. Mr Mathur had joined the National Defence Academy in 1978 and was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1982.


China slashes its GDP target to 6-6.5% amid slowdown
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has expressed concern that the country will face a graver and more complicated environment to development, amid an ongoing trade war with the US and continued economic slowdown.


Indian economy expected to grow at 7.3% in 2019-20: Moody’s
Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.3 per cent in calendar years 2019 and 2020, according to the US-based rating agency Moody’s. The agency has made this expectation in its quarterly Global Macro Outlook for 2019 and 2020. The agency said that India is less exposed to a slowdown in global manufacturing trade growth.


Medha Narvekar appointed as Vice President and Secretary of University of Pennsylvania
Indian American Medha Narvekar has been appointed as the Vice President and Secretary of the University of Pennsylvania. As per the University release, Narvekar, an MBA from Wharton School, will be taking over the new position on 1st July. Prior to this appointment, she served as senior associate vice president of the Pennsylvania Development and Alumni Relations.

TVS Motor Company recently bagged the ‘Green Era Award for Sustainability’ at Lisbon in Portugal. The two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer also won the ‘Quality and Business Excellence Award’ for its endeavour to create new benchmarks in product quality.


Centre and ADB sign US$ 926 million loan agreement for Mumbai Metro
The Centre and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a US$ 926 million dollar loan agreement to operationalize two lines of the Mumbai Metro Rail System. It is the single largest infrastructure project loan in ADB history approved by the ADB Board. The project will ease the distress of millions of commuters each day and help provide a cleaner and less congested city.


SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft marks debut unmanned flight
An American spacecraft designed to fly astronauts to the International Space Station from the United States was launched on 2 March for its debut unmanned flight. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, carrying the Crew Dragon spacecraft, lifted off at 0749 GMT from National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.


Former New Zealand Cricketer Bill Playle Passes Away
Former New Zealand batsman Bill Playle passed away in New South Wales, Australia at the age of 80. Born 1 December 1938 in Manawatu, New Zealand, Playle represented his country in 8 Tests between 1958 and 1963. In addition, he also played 85 First-Class games.
