Dilma Rousseff Sworn In For Second Term As Brazilian President

Dilma Rousseff, who won the October 26 runoff election by the narrow margin of just three percent of the vote, has been sworn in for the second term on 1 January to serve four more years as the president of Brazil. The inauguration ceremony, that took place in the country’s capital of Brasilia has gathered about 70 foreign delegations and 27 heads of state, including Bolivian president Evo Morales and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.


A.K. Mittal Appointed As New Chairman of Railway Board

AK Mittal was appointed as the new Chairman Railway Board succeeding Arunendra Kumar, who superannuated on 31 December 2014. Mittal, the senior most official, was earlier Member Staff in the Railway Board.


India To Host 2nd International Indian Ocean Expedition

The country will be hosting the 2nd International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE) in December 2015, almost 50 years after it had hosted its first edition, during which the participating nations will also study the changes that have taken place in the Indian Ocean since the 1960s. The second IIOE will have at least 20 counties participating in it. It will start in early December 2015 and will continue for next five years.The IIOE-2 is a developing initiative under UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), which aims at providing an exciting platform for knowledge transfer and capacity building, besides raising global awareness about the importance of the Indian Ocean. The first such expedition had been held during 1960-65 with the participation of 20 countries and 40 ships. Besides the US, Japan, Germany, France, Australia and South Africa, regional countries including India will be participating in the event with their own resources.
