India and France Signed 17 Agreements

India and France signed 17 agreement and made three announcements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the country on 10 April. These included deals on Rafale fighter jets, Jaitapur nuclear reactor, renewable sources of energy, railways, smart city and several others.


Arun Kumar Jha Appointed CEO of Khadi and Village Industries Commission

Arun Kumar Jha was on 10 April appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai. Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has appointed him to the post of CEO (Joint Secretary level post) in order to balance period of his overall 5 year tenure up to September 2016. Arun Kumar Jha, a 1985-batch officer of Indian Economics Service, is presently working as Director General, National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.


Former Australian Cricket Captain Richie Benaud Died

Former Australia cricket captain and renowned commentator Richie Benaud has died on 10 April. He was 84. In his Test cricket career, he had played 63 matches. His debut match was against West Indies in 1952. He had made 2201 runs and had taken 248 wickets. In 1958, he was appointed captain of Australian Test Team. He had led the team in 28 Test matches.  He had scored 23 centuries in first class cricket. After retiring from cricket he pursued his career in journalism and broadcasting. In 1960, he made first radio cricket commentary for BBC in Britain. His last commentary was in 2005 Ashes series.
