India, Ukraine sign five pacts to boost ties

India and Ukraine on 10 December 2012 signed on five agreements in New Delhi to enhance cooperation including in areas of defence, Nuclear, Science and Technology and also to remove barriers in trade and commerce. The agreements were signed during the visit of Ukraine President Victor Yanukovich.


Ex-Bangladesh President passes away

Former Bangladeshi President and  Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) leader  Iajuddin Ahmed passed away 10 December 2012. Iajuddin Ahmed  was the 13th president of Bangladeshserving from Sept. 6, 2002 until Feb. 12, 2009.


Lionel Messi breaks Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in a calendar year

Barcelona’s soccer  player Lionel Messi has set the record for most goals in a calendar year by scoring his 86th goal of 2012.The earlier record was made by German soccer  player Gerd Mueller who had scored 85 goals in 1972 which included 72 goals for his club Bayern Munich and 13 for his country West Germany.Messi broke the Gerd Mueller  record with two goals in a 2-1 win over Real Betis on 9 December 2012.


Zardari announces grant for girls’ education worldwide

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on 10 December 2012 announced a $10-million donation for a global war chest to educate all girls by 2015 set up in the name of Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education.

UN, Pakistan Launch ‘Malala Fund for Girls’ Education’

Pakistan joined forces with the United Nations on 10 December 2012 to launch a fund aimed at boosting girls’ education throughout the world.The fund is named for Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot and wounded by the Pakistani Taliban in October for speaking out against the militant group and in favor of the right of girls’ to attend school.
