Prime Minister Launched Jeevan Pramaan – Digital Life Certificate For Pensioners

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 November launched ‘Jeevan Pramaan – Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners’. The proposed digital certification will do away with the requirement of a pensioner having to submit a physical Life Certificate in November each year, in order to ensure continuity of pension being credited into his account.


Jnanpith Award 2013 Conferred On Hindi Poet Kedarnath Singh

President Pranab Mukherjee on 10 November conferred Jnanpith award on eminent Hindi poet Kedarnath Singh for his outstanding contribution towards Indian literature. The Jnanpith award was institutionalised by philanthropist couple Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain and Late Rama Jain to recognise and award Indian authors for their contribution to Indian literature.


Mannan Kumar Mishra and S. Prabakaran Re-elected To BCI

Mannan Kumar Mishra of Bihar and S. Prabakaran from Tamil Nadu have been unanimously re-elected Chairman and Co-chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI). The BCI also elected Bhoje Gowda SL as vice-chairman, T.S. Ajith as chairman of the executive committee, and Nilesh Kumar as the vice-chairman of the executive committee. The office-bearers will hold office till April 2016.


Noted Scholar MSS Pandian Died

Noted scholar and JNU professor Mathias Samuel Soundra Pandian, popularly known as MSS Pandian, died on 10 November in New Delhi. He was 57. He was working with the School of Social Sciences’ Centre for Historical Studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). His publications were many including Brahmin and Non -Brahmin: Genealogies of the Tamil Political Present and The Image Trap: M G Ramachandran in Films and Politics. Pandian wrote extensively on the Dravidian Movement, south Indian politics, cinema, caste, identity and several other socially relevant issues. Pandian wrote for national newspapers and for the Economic and Political Weekly for several years and was known for his incisive articles on Tamil Nadu and Dravidian politics in particular.
