President Pranab Mukherjee launches 100 Million for 100 Million Campaign

President Pranab Mukherjee launched a ‘100 Million for 100 Million’ Campaign at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The campaign was conceptualized by Nobel peace prize winner Kailash Satyarthi and was organized by the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation.The campaign aims to mobilize 100 million youth and children for 100 million underprivileged children across the world. Its prime objective is to end child labour, child slavery, violence against children over the next 5 years. It also seeks to promote the right of every child to be safe, free, and educated. It will strive to inspire 100 million children to speak and act for the numerous other unfortunate children living in terrible conditions to build a child-friendly world.


11-year-old Pune girl wins ‘Doodle 4 Google’ 2016 contest

11 year old Pune girl Anvita Prashant Telang has been named national winner of the “Doodle 4 Google” contest. The sixth standard student from Vibgyor High School in Balewadi area was chosen for her Doodle submission on the theme titled “If I could teach anyone anything, it would be”. The Doodle will be featured on the Google India homepage on November 14 to celebrate Children’s Day.


Scientist creates Nano ceramic material for safer, cheaper nuclear reactors

Scientists from US including one of Indian origin have created a nano ceramic material that can used for safer, cheaper nuclear reactors. The new material is made of aluminum oxide nano ceramic coating. It can withstand high temperatures, the harsh effects of radiation and also becomes tougher under radiation. Potential Applications: It can be used in next- generation nuclear reactors that will operate at higher temperatures and radiation fields, producing more energy efficiently, safely and economically.


India offers tsunami warning system to SCS countries

India has offered tsunami early warning-system to South China Sea (SCS) countries like Vietnam, Malaysia and Philippines as part of soft-diplomacy. India already provides earthquake and tsunami-warning alerts to several countries in the Indian Ocean neighbourhood, as do Japan and Australia.Tsunami early warning-system Developed by scientists at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). It warns concerned authorities of any large earthquake in the Ocean and threat it poses. Uses mathematical model to estimate if an earthquake in India’s oceanic neighbourhood can result in a tsunami.
