Jaitley, Karan Singh, Sharad Yadav Conferred with Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards

President Pranab Mukherjee on 12 August presented the outstanding parliamentarian awards to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Congress leader Karan Singh and JD-U president Sharad Yadav for 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively. The awards were given for their invaluable contribution in discharge of their parliamentary duties.


World Elephant Day Observed Across The World

World Elephant Day was observed across the world on 12 August 2014. It is an international annual event and is dedicated towards the preservation and protection of the world’s elephants. The goal of World Elephant Day is to create awareness around the urgent plight of African and Asian elephants, and to share knowledge and positive solutions for the better care and management of captive and wild elephants. The first World Elephant Day was observed on 12 August 2012 and the day was declared by the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in Thailand. Patricia Sims, a Canadian filmmaker was also one of the founder members of the day. It was a Royal initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand.
