Manipur Won Senior National Women’s Football Champions Title
Manipur won the 20th Senior National Women’s Football Championships title at the Golaghat Stadium in Assam. To clinch the title, Manipur defeated the defending champions Orissa by 3-1. At the end of the tournament, Bala Devi of Manipur was adjudged as the player of the tournament. Last time, Manipur won the Championships in 2010.
Kristin Lund Becomes First Female UN Peacekeeping Force Commander
UN chief Ban Ki-moon named Major General Kristin Lund of Norway to take command of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus. The Norwegian commander will be the first female to command a UN force. Lund will replace Major General Chao Liu of China on 13 August 2014, who has led the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) since 2011.
