Former SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya joins ChrysCapital as advisor
The largest home grown private equity firm ChrysCapital Advisors LLP has hired former SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya as an advisor.Bhattacharya who will advise on firm’s strategy and investments, will be working with ChrysCapital managing partner Kunal Shroff and other partners.


Malaysian Government Abolishes Capital Punishment
In Malaysia, the cabinet decided to abolish the death penalty. Communications and multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo stated that the government decided to scrap capital punishment following strong domestic opposition to the practice. Capital punishment in Malaysia is currently mandatory for murder, kidnapping, possession of firearms and drug trafficking, among other crimes.


Maryse Conde wins alternative Nobel Literature Prize
Guadeloupean author Maryse Conde (81) was awarded New Academy Prize in Literature, an alternative award formed in protest to Nobel Literature Prize. She was selected from 47 authors who were nominated by Swedish librarians and voted on by nearly 33,000 people from around the world.


India elected to UNHRC securing maximum votes
India has been elected to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council with the highest vote among all candidates. It secured 188 votes in the Asia-Pacific category for a period of three years. India’s win with the highest number of votes reflects the country’s standing in the international comity.

Pakistan Left-Arm Spinner Abdur Rehman retires from International Cricket
Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman, who along with teammate Saeed Ajmal famously stunned England during a 3-0 defeat in 2012, announced his retirement from international cricket. The spinner Rehman finished his 22-Test career just one short of a deserved hundred wicket mark, while he took 30 in 31 one-dayers and eight wickets in 11 Twenty20 Internationals.


Legendary Musician Annapurna Devi Passes away
Legendary musician Annapurna Devi has passed away in Mumbai. She was 91. She was suffering from age-related issues. Annapurna Devi was an Indian surbahar player of Hindustani classical music and she was the daughter and disciple of Allauddin Khan. She was married to sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
