Union Government Announces Rs 1500 crore INIP

Union Government has launched an Indian Nuclear Insurance Pool (INIP) of 1,500 crore rupees as per the mandatory provision under the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act (CLND), 2010. This pool will be the 27th such market pool globally. This insurance pool was launched to address the concerns of the clauses in the CLND Act, which give the operator the Right to Recourse and allow it to sue the suppliers in case of any accident. General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) is the fund operator of this Rs. 1,500 crore Indian insurance pool and it includes 11 other non-life insurers as associates of the pool. Apart from GIC Re, New India, Oriental Insurance, National Insurance and United India Insurance from the public sector, the private ones are ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Tata AIG General, Reliance General Insurance, Chola MS General Insurance, IFFCO Tokio General Insurance, SBI General and Universal Sompo General.


Former Union Minister Sheila Kaul Died

Former Himachal Pradesh governor and ex-union minister Sheila Kaul passed away in New Delhi. She was 101. Sheila Kaul was a sister-in-law of Jawaharlal Nehru and oldest surviving former parliamentarian at present. She was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for five times in 1971, 1980 and 1984 (from Lucknow) and in 1989, 1991 (from Rae Bareli). From 1980 to 84 in Indira Gandhi Government, she served as Minister of State (MoS) for culture, Education and Social Welfare (Independent Charge). From 1992 to 1995 in Narasimha Rao Government, she served as Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development and was accused of making out-of-turn allotment of government accommodations in return for monetary gain.From 1995 to 1996, she served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.


World Blood Donor Day was Observed On 14 June

World Blood Donor Day was observed across the world on 14 June 2015. Theme for the year’s World Blood Day campaign is “Thank you for saving my life”. The theme focuses on thanking blood donors who save lives every day through their blood donation and encourages more people across the earth to donate blood voluntarily and regularly with the slogan “Give freely, give often. Blood donation matters.” The World Blood Donors Day (WBDD) was established in 2004 to raise awareness of the need for safe bold and blood products, and to thank donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.
