Services Won 69th Santosh Trophy

Services defeated hosts Punjab 5-4 on penalties to win the 69th edition of the National Football Champions for the Santosh Trophy at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on 15 March. With this win services have won this title for fourth time besides finishing runners up on five occasions.


Kidambi Srikanth Won Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Title

India’s ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold title on 15 March. He defeated Denmark’s defending champion Viktor Axelsen in the Men’s singles final at Basel, Switzerland. With this victory, Kidambi Srikanth became first Indian to win this prestigious title in Men’s singles category.


Noted Gandhian Narayan Desai Died

Noted Gandhian and former Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, Narayan Desai, died on 15 March in Surat. He was 90. Narayan Desai was born on December 24, 1924, at Valsad in Gujarat and brought up at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. He imbibed Gandhian ideals of non-violence and truth from his father Mahadev Desai, who was the personal secretary and diarist of Mahatma Gandhi. Desai was also associated with Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan (land gift) movement and Jayprakash Narayan’s ‘total revolution’ movement. Desai was Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith from 2007 to 2014. He was popular for reciting ‘Gandhi-Katha'(narratives on the life of Mahatma Gandhi) across the world which he began in 2004. Desai served as Gujarat Vidyapith Chancellor since July 23, 2007, but resigned from the post in November last year.


World Consumer Rights Day Observed Across the World

World Consumer Rights Day was observed on 15 March 2015 for creating awareness in terms of consumer protection measures as well as consumer rights. The theme for 2015 World Consumer Rights Day was Helping consumers choose healthy diets.This day was first observed on 15 March 1983. In 1962, the former US President John F. Kennedy, declared four basic consumer rights- right to choose, right to be heard, right to safety and right to be informed. The Consumer Protection Act was enacted by the Parliament for the first time in 1986. It led to the establishment of consumer councils to settle consumer disputes and related matters.
